For more than 115 years, our family has harvested clams and oysters in Virginia and its surrounding waters. While our history is in wild-harvested shellfish, in 1983, we recognized the need to preserve natural resources and began farm-raising clams with the development of Cherrystone Aqua-Farms. In its short history, Cherrystone has become the leading producer of farm-raised clams in the world. In 2005, we recognized there was also a need for a great quality farm-raised oyster and began culturing oysters. Since then, we have been leveraging our lengthy history in the wild oyster business to produce an extremely high quality cultured oyster. The addition of Chincoteague Shellfish to our family of companies has provided additional experience and history to this endeavor. Today the Ballard Fish Oyster family of companies is not only an industry leader in shellfish production but in reputation for quality, honesty and integrity. |
